Books in Translation Reading Challenge
This challenge, hosted by Jen over at The Introverted Reader, seems to have been made for me as I have been lamenting about the lack of translated fiction I seem to read, and that most of the books I read last year were set in England – same as the year before that and probably the year before that as well.
There are four levels:
Beginner: Read 1-3 books in translation
Conversationalist: 4-6
Bilingual: 7-9
Linguist: 10-12
Challenge cross-overs are allowed. According to my other challenges I will be reading several translated fictions (going that I actually do read them!)
1. The Saga of Gosta Berling by Selma Lagerlöf (Swedish)
2. The Dream Merchant by Isabel Hoving (Dutch)
3. The Swarm by Frank Schatzing (German)
4. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami (Japanese)
I’m not going to count The Three Musketeers as I’ve already read this.
I’m going to go for the Conversationalist level, and try to add two more books onto that list of books I’ll already be reading. I don’t want to aim to high because I really do already have enough books pre-planned out this year, but you never know, do you?

I have to confess that one of your posts gave me a kick in the pants to actually host this. I’d been knocking the idea around, I was just being kind of lazy about it and wondering if anyone would sign up since we were several days into the new year. I read your post and decided to get my act together and post something. So in a way, it *was* made for you! I hope you enjoy the books you choose, and I’m glad you signed up!
Ahh, why thank you. I have just bought Snow by Orhan Pamuk pretty much because of this challenge – my TBR thanks you. I’m so looking forward to expanding my reading range. Thanks for hosting the challenge Jen.
